Data sources & attribution

Transparency about where AustriaDir data comes from, how it is licensed, and how confidence levels are assigned.
Principles
AustriaDir combines open data, official sources, and community review for Austria — currently covering Vienna. Categories include ATMs, pharmacies, police stations, hospitals, night pharmacies, Trafik shops, public toilets, and vending machines. Each listing shows — where available — source, licence, confidence badge, and last check date. We do not scrape Google Maps and do not sell pay-to-rank placement in emergency categories.
Sources by type
| Source | Used for | Licence / note |
|---|---|---|
| OpenStreetMap | Map tiles; ATMs, Trafik shops, toilets, and other place listings; opening hours where published on OSM | ODbL — © OpenStreetMap contributors |
| City of Vienna open data (data.wien.gv.at) | Pharmacies, public toilets, police stations, and hospitals in Vienna | City of Vienna open data licence (CC BY 4.0 where stated on the dataset) |
| Apothekerkammer Wien / Apothekennotdienst | Rotating night pharmacy duty schedule (separate from regular pharmacy listings) | Official duty information — verify on site or via 1450 before visiting |
| MVG Trafikensuche | Trafik shop locations and opening hours where published by MVG | Source-based directory data — see MVG terms of use |
| Community reports & editorial review | Vending machines, ATM fee notes, corrections, and manual re-checks | Editorially reviewed, non-proprietary |
Confidence badges
On cards and detail pages you will see one of these badges. They describe how reliable we consider the location at the last check — not whether a business is open right now.
- Official — from an official register or authority-published dataset
- Verified — confirmed manually or against an official source
- Community — reported or corrected by users, pending full verification
- OSM — from OpenStreetMap; may not have been manually checked recently
- Unverified — published with limited confirmation; treat as indicative only
What we do not use
- Google Maps scraping or unlicensed bulk directory imports
- Proprietary map data without attribution
- Pay-to-rank for pharmacies, night pharmacies, or other emergency categories
